Your turn!

March 4, 2011

This week we’ve laid some foundation for our study of the book of Ruth. Sandra reminded us of important guidelines as we approach narrative passages of Scripture, and we walked through the cultural context surrounding this book in the time of the judges.

Now, it’s your turn!

When I begin to study a book or passage, especially a brief one like Ruth, I find it extremely helpful to read through it several times before digging into the particulars. Your challenge today: find some time to sit down and read through Ruth in one sitting. Try to read it in its entirety at least once, more if possible! If you have an audio Bible, listen to it a few times. {Remember, it’s only four chapters!}

Look for general themes and structure. Think through the “who, what, when, where, why” questions. Ponder what it teaches you about God, mankind, yourself, etc.

Ready, set, go! Let’s dig in!

    Doing the right thing, trusting in Him, His will be done…these are my thoughts as I finished Ruth. I didn’t realize how close a connection she was to David.
