Looking Back at December – Recap

December 31, 2010

Throughout this month we’ve been reminded that it really is all about Jesus – not just Christmas, but life. Each of this month’s posts remind us that God loved us before time began – so much so that He was willing to send His only Son to die for us. It’s amazingly beyond words and beyond comprehension to know that Jesus came to planet earth knowing the manager was a prelude to the cross.

But God is the ultimate promise keeper. In Genesis 3 God promised the seed of a woman would defeat mankind’s enemy and then He instituted the first substitutionary sacrifice when He clothed Adam and Eve with the skin of an animal. That sacrifice pointed us to the ultimate substitutionary sacrifice made by Jesus (the promised seed) on the cross. Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

Take a few minutes and review some of the names and titles of Jesus listed below. Be sure to click over to each reference. The Bible tells us Jesus is:

This month we have celebrated all Jesus is and all He has done. He has loved us with an everlasting love. As you reflect on these various names of Christ, I pray you will spend some time in prayer and worship. He is more than words can describe and beyond our comprehension, yet He chose to be made flesh and dwell among us; He chose to be tempted in all ways like us, yet without sin; He chose to humble Himself and become obedient – even to the death of the cross.

Throughout this Christmas season, many of Jesus’ names and titles have comforted my heart and soothed my soul. After loosing my brother-in-law, my mom and my step brother in less than six weeks of each other, I have clung to the Prince of Peace who has carried me through these great losses. I have trusted the Resurrection and the Life who has secured my mom’s heavenly home, I have leaned on the Rock whose strength has sustained me and I have been so thankful for Emmanuel who assures me of His constant presence.

No matter what we go through in this life, Jesus is everything we need – and He is all we need.

Now it’s your turn fellow digger – which name or title of Christ spoke to your heart and circumstances during this Christmas season?

I love the title of “Prince of Peace.” While I look forward to His eternal reign and the peace He’ll bring, I’m thankful to know that I can live with an earthly attitude of peace in this new year!

Early in the season, the words from the familiar hymn O Come All Ye Faithful rang truth into my heart “Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing” While it’s not a title perse, the truth of WHO Jesus really is (every one of the titles listed above) filled my heart this Christmas.
